I got quite frustrated with Margaret in this episode. I also really want to see a good revenge story. Which would be a shame because I was really looking forward to his hot headed-ness as the next "king". I have a horrible feeling he might spend the next season being addicted to heroin or something. Loved the flashbacks about his past and how everything happened, not surprised at all. Or he could fall even deeper into her clutches with despair, who knows. I think maybe Jimmy will finally see how his mother is playing him like a puppet and manipulating him. No matter what happens, I have FULL faith that the writers have a really fucking interesting story left to tell, and that we are for sure in for quite a fucking ride. If they do off Jimmy, then they'll have set in stone that they're going down a "kill everyone" trope, and we really won't be sure which (if any) of the characters will make it out alive. Plus, from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't read as much in to this show as myself, I would definitely be surprised and would have my desire to watch the show and find out what the writers have in store skyrocket tremendously if they went ahead and offed Jimmy. I just feel like it would not only make sense, but also really drive the motif/theme I feel like is pretty central that Jimmy's desire/persuasion to defy Nucky and rise to power (which he justifies to himself is because he's trying to ensure the safety and protection of those who are closest/most important to him) is a very Icarus-inspired story, and will (in a very well done homage to classic Greek tragedy) be the downfall and ultimate demise of not only himself but also those people he set out to protect (SPOILER WARNING!: case in point - his wife). And, honestly, shows/movies/stories like this have the tendency to kill of a bunch (and in quite a few cases, pretty much all) characters by the end.especially characters who the writers would like us to believe are more or less "safe" due to them being a "main character". However, I think (and I definitely could be completely wrong, which I would gladly accept if it were true) that since we've lost more central characters in like 1 and 1/10th episodes than over the course of the whole series, the writers are starting to let us know that we're definitely going to lose central characters. We will joyfully swing the banhammer for such behavior.Įxample (#s "They drink beer!") No degradation or harassment of other users. This made it all the more satisfying when Nucky executes Jimmy in cold blood in the final installment “To The Lost.” The episode does a great job at showing the ways that Jimmy is wrestling with the eventuality of his demise. While Jimmy’s motivations were compelling and Pitt’s performance was suitably creepy, Jimmy became such an unlikable character that his presence cast a looming shadow over the entirety of the second season. RELATED: The True Story Behind 'Boardwalk Empire' After becoming more aware of his heritage, Jimmy believes that he should have the power to take over Atlantic City’s criminal underground, using his wartime ally Richard Harrow ( Jack Huston) as his personal assassin throughout the season. The second season of Boardwalk Empire largely focused on the splintering alliance between Nucky and Jimmy.
